Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their car as well as start the motor and even find it using the smartphone app.

You can activate this feature by using the key fob if your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will heat or cool at the same temperature it was set to when it was parked. It can last for up to 15 mins.

Use a fingernail to remove the cover from the back of the key fob. Under the cover on a diagonal close to the edge of the body, you'll find an unidentified button. You can remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will fall free and slide away leaving the manual key blade inside! If you still can't locate the button, search the newly exposed manual key access area to see if there is a hidden slot or lever.

Closing the Windows

Volvo key fobs feature an in-built feature that lets you to immediately roll down all windows. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into a cramped parking spot, or even simply when you want to get some fresh air in your cabin while driving.

To unlock your Volvo, press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, should you have one. When you're done with your car, you can close everything by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob for activating your car's panic alarm. It will emit an alarm that is loud and attention-grabbing that can scare off thieves and allow you to return home in peace after a night out. This feature is helpful if you reside in a hazardous area or you want to protect your family when you are away from home.

Opening the Tailgate

The key fob of Volvo is loaded with a variety of useful features. They are perfect when you're slammed with groceries or helping kids take their sports gear home after practice.

Turning off the Alarm

If you're running out of time or don't want to go to an establishment to get your key fob reprogrammed you can try to get it to work at home.

Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery and any other keys. Place the key fob in a place with the Volvo logo facing up, then locate a small black button to the left-hand side of the fob and slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the key blade's mechanical mechanism underneath.

You can open all doors and the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob twice. The lock button also closes the sunroof and windows (if equipped) by pressing it for two seconds. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owner's manual should include a method to reset the alarm.
